The Boyd County Detention Center operates a 20 bed in house addiction recovery program in conjunction with the WestCare Foundation. This program is approved by the Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC) and is only open to state inmates. To be accepted into the program, inmates must first apply through DOC, and they are then assigned to a facility if their application is approved and a bed becomes available. Funding for this program is provided by the Department of Corrections.
SAP is an evidence-based program, using the therapeutic community model, and takes 6 months to complete. Participants are required to follow a structured daily schedule and strictly adhere to all facility and program rules and regulations. Failure to do so will result in dismissal from the program. Offenders who complete the program learn skills that not only help them defeat addiction, but gain valuable life skills which will help them to become productive members of society and helping to break the cycle of recidivism.
